Meet our Executive Director, Maria Clark

Described as possessing “A heavenly voice that can summon the angels” emerging soprano, Maria Clark, has completed a US tour of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, playing the principle role of Clara. She has also sung in several other Operatic Productions such as Miss Silverpeal in The Impresario, Susannah in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Monica in The Medium.

Maria has also performed with the ensemble of Atlanta Opera in a past production of Carmen. She also went on to play the role of Strawberry Woman with Atlanta Opera’s Porgy and Bess in their 2005 Premier, and performed on various Atlanta Opera Outreach and Fundraiser events.

Maria Clark was a first prize winner in the Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition of 2008 and as a result made a Carnegie Hall/Weill Recital Hall Debut in New York City in year 2008, and was invited to return for an additional performance in 2009. She is also the Oxnard Gold Medalist winner in the 2004 American Traditions Competition held at the Savannah Music Festival, is a past winner in the West Palm Beach Opera Competition and NATS vocal competitions, and is a past finalist in both the Mobile Opera, and D’Angelo Vocal Competitions.

She has performed as a Guest Artist with North Carolina Opera on their Concert of Arias Programs, and with Ludwig, Atlanta Baroque, and Dekalb Symphony Orchestras. Guest Recital appearances have included Ga College and State University, and Ga Perimeter and Morehouse Colleges. Maria participated in Atlanta Opera and Opera Comique’s historical collaborative production of Porgy and Bess that toured France, Spain, and Luxembourg, while singing the role of Strawberry Woman. She also covered the role of Bess in the Atlanta Opera’s mainstage 2011 production of Porgy and Bess, and performed the role of Bess with the Atlanta Opera in their abridged version that was produced for the Atlanta Opera Outreach School productions. Recently, she has also completed a tour of Asheville, North Carolina, with the Amici Music organization, and has upcoming collaborations to perform on the Knoxville Opera Concert Series. 

Maria completed her undergraduate studies in vocal performance at Manhattan School of Music, and her graduate studies at Georgia State University.  Her additional hobbies are cooking, traveling, and caring for her 3 puppies, and cat, whom she lovingly refers to as her bobble head babies.
